Budget Accountant – [Newport News, VA]
Beacon Hill Financial is partnering with a well-established healthcare organization in the search for a Budget Accountant to join their accounting team. This role will support budgeting, regulatory reporting, cost analysis, and financial compliance activities in a highly computerized environment. The Budget Accountant will use independent judgment and strong analytical skills to support Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting, budget preparation, and regulatory filings while collaborating with internal leadership and external agencies. Primary Responsibilities
- Perform complex accounting and financial analyses independently, applying accounting theory and best practices
- Prepare and analyze monthly estimated contractual adjustments, charity care, and bad debt reserves
- Prepare, file, and maintain Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports and settlements
- Develop, maintain, and analyze annual operating budgets; monitor variances and support cost analysis initiatives
- Prepare and support Federal, State, and Local tax filings and related compliance reporting
- Compile and submit required reports to the state COPN Regulatory Authority
- Interpret and communicate federal and state regulations affecting healthcare finance and reimbursement
- Assess the theoretical integrity of accounting functions and recommend or implement process improvements
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and regulatory reviews
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, taxing authorities, external consultants, auditors, and internal leadership
- Manage competing priorities and deadlines while exercising sound independent judgment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with a concentration in Accounting (required)
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience with a focus on analysis, budgeting, or financial statements
- Prior experience in healthcare accounting or finance strongly preferred
- CPA certification preferred but not required
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including heavy use of pivot tables and advanced formulas
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial and regulatory information clearly to internal and external stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment
