Staff Accountant – Newport News, VA

Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Newport News, VA in their search for a Staff Accountant to join their team. This fully onsite role is responsible for performing complex accounting analysis, supporting budgeting and financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex accounting analysis, applying accounting theory independently to support financial operations.
• Prepare and analyze monthly estimated contractual adjustments, charity, and bad debt.
• Prepare and file Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports and support settlement processes.
• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets, tax returns, and cost analysis.
• Ensure accurate reporting to regulatory bodies, including the state COPN Regulatory Authority.
• Interpret and communicate federal and state regulations; manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Evaluate accounting processes, recommend improvements, and implement solutions.
• Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, consultants, and internal leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with a concentration in Accounting required.
• Exposure to analysis, budgeting, and financial statements required.
• Prior healthcare accounting or finance experience preferred.
• Excel skills required, including use of pivot tables and complex formulas.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
