Financial Reporting Manager – Washington, DC
Job Summary: Finance Manager
Beacon Hill has partnered with a mission-driven organization in the Washington, DC area seeking a Financial Manager. This position will work closely with the Director of Finance and be responsible for overseeing critical accounting and financial reporting functions, including month-end close, fixed asset accounting, audit preparation, reconciliations, and compliance activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong GAAP knowledge, audit experience, and the ability to quickly step into a highly visible role.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze month-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation calculations, and related general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare and review journal entries related to depreciation, fixed asset activity, prepaid amortization, payroll, accruals, and other month-end adjustments.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Lead year-end close and audit preparation efforts, including preparing audit schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Research and address GAAP accounting issues and assist with tax compliance questions as needed.
- Review account reconciliations for accuracy and completeness, ensuring timely resolution of variances and outstanding items.
- Assist in maintaining strong internal controls and accounting policies to support financial integrity and compliance.
- Partner closely with the Director of Finance to support ongoing accounting operations during a leave coverage period.
- Assist with process improvements and accounting system optimization initiatives.
- Perform special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong financial reporting responsibilities.
- Extensive experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation, prepaid amortization, and journal entries.
- Experience supporting annual audits and year-end close activities.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and quickly adapt to new environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
