Accounting Manager – Washington, DC

Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a nonprofit client in Washington, DC in their search for an Accounting Manager to join their team. This fully onsite role is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, managing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise and experience managing grants in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds, ensuring compliance with grant agreements, and preparing grant-related financial reports.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure alignment with funding requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate audits, including financial statement audits and grant-specific audits; prepare supporting documentation.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and performance oversight.
  • Partner with leadership and program teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Experience with grant accounting and compliance required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
