Budget Accountant
Position Overview
The Budget Accountant uses independent judgment and strong analytical skills to support complex accounting and budgeting functions in a highly computerized healthcare environment. This role is responsible for preparing and analyzing contractual adjustments, cost reports, budgets, and regulatory filings while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and comfortable working independently on technically complex accounting matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex accounting analysis requiring independent application of accounting theory
- Prepare and analyze monthly estimated contractual adjustments, charity care, and bad debt
- Prepare and file Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports and settlements using independent judgment
- Prepare and maintain annual budgets and perform detailed cost analysis
- Prepare Federal, State, and Local tax returns and complete required regulatory reporting
- Interpret and communicate federal and state regulations impacting financial operations
- Assess the theoretical integrity of accounting functions and recommend or implement process improvements
- Manage priorities and deadlines independently in a regulated environment
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory and taxing agencies, external consultants, auditors, and organizational leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance/Business with a concentration in Accounting (required)
- Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience with exposure to analysis, budgeting, and financial statements
- Strong Excel skills with heavy use of pivot tables and advanced formulas
- Ability to apply accounting judgment independently and communicate complex financial information clearly
