Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Employment Type: Contract to Hire (with potential for extension or conversion)
Pay Range: $45-50/hour, depending on experience and skillset
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and manage the accounting function for a residential construction company here in the OKC metroplex.
This role will oversee all core accounting operations, including financial reporting, month-end close, job cost accounting, land and inventory accounting, and process improvement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Controller, or a strong Senior Accountant ready to step into a Controller role, who thrives in a roll-up-your-sleeves type environment. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting, experience in construction, real estate, or homebuilding, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and leadership to drive accurate, timely financial insights.
This is a full-time, on-site position with a standard Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end and year-end close, including financial statement preparation and account reconciliations
- Oversee general ledger activity and ensure accuracy of all accounting records
- Manage job cost accounting, including WIP, spec inventory, and land development costs
- Analyze project and community performance, including cost variances and profitability
- Partner with construction, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and reporting
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
- Review AP activity, subcontractor/vendor accruals, retainage, and lien waiver processes
- Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls
- Coordinate with external auditors and support audit/tax requests
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably along with some accounting leadership experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent controller experience. CPA preferred but not required.
- Prior experience in real estate development, construction, homebuilding, or a related industry strongly preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Office/Excel (advanced) skills, and prior accounting/ERP system experience.
