Our client is a leading national professional services firm headquartered in Boston, MA, specializing in complex accounting, tax, valuation, and transaction advisory services. Founded over a decade ago and backed by institutional private equity, the firm has grown significantly to serve more than 1,500 clients across multiple U.S. office locations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization at a pivotal stage of its continued national expansion.

This is a newly created role and represents the firm’s first dedicated in-house legal hire. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Associate General Counsel will serve as the primary legal resource for the organization, providing enterprise-wide legal support across both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with broad scope and the opportunity to build the legal function from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary legal advisor to the professional services and corporate leadership teams on all legal matters affecting the business.
  • Lead the review, negotiation, and management of client engagement agreements, vendor contracts, and other commercial agreements.
  • Develop and execute legal strategies aligned with firm goals and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Streamline contract processes to reduce cycle times, build templates and playbooks, and optimize overall legal efficiency.
  • Advise on employment law matters, corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Maintain company policies in line with current labor and tax laws.
  • Serve as a proactive business partner to the operating team, consultants, and partners on ethical issues including conflicts of interest.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel relationships, including responsibility for legal expenses.
  • Support strategic transactions and special projects as a subject matter advisor.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant in-house or law firm legal experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract law, with particular strength in professional services or client engagement agreements.
  • Experience with employment law and data privacy matters.
  • Background in or strong familiarity with professional services firms – accounting, consulting, advisory, or similar environments strongly preferred.
  • Proactive, self-directed approach to identifying and addressing legal needs with minimal oversight.
  • Sound risk calibration that supports business objectives while managing downside exposure.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex legal matters clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders.
  • High degree of professional integrity, follow-through, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
