This role supports the analytical functions of an Inorganic Analytical Chemistry group and is involved in all aspects of laboratory operations, including sample preparation, analytical testing, method development, data quality review, reporting, personnel training, and instrumentation maintenance.

Job Responsibilities

The Analyst will support daily operations within the inorganic chemistry laboratory and contribute across the full analytical workflow. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform sample preparation and analysis for a wide range of digested samples and matrices, including minerals, raw materials, environmental samples, industrial hygiene samples, and other complex matrices
  • Operate and maintain ICP‑AES instrumentation for routine and non‑routine analytical testing
  • Review, analyze, interpret, and validate analytical data, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data packages
  • Support method development, optimization, and validation activities
  • Conduct data quality reviews and prepare technical reports
  • Train and mentor junior analysts as needed
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance
  • Support laboratory operations by maintaining documentation, workflows, and compliance with established analytical protocols
  • Collaborate with team members to support continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of one (1) year of hands‑on experience operating ICP‑AES or ICP‑MS instrumentation
  • Demonstrated ability to review, analyze, and interpret analytical data and produce complete, high‑quality data packages
  • Experience with extraction techniques
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, and ASTM preparation and analytical methods and protocols
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior analysts
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Experience working with additional analytical instrumentation such as IC or CVAA is a plus
  • Experience with instrument maintenance and repair is a plus
  • Position may require working outside of normal business hours as needed
