Child Life Specialist
Location: Chicago, IL
Organization Type: Pediatric Healthcare & Transitional Care Program
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child & Family Studies, or a related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a child life or pediatric developmental setting
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
- Strong communication, teamwork, and child‑development knowledge, including coping styles and trauma‑informed approaches
Job Duties
- Provide developmentally appropriate play, preparation, and coping support for children ages birth-21 in respite or transitional care
- Create individualized activity plans based on developmental level, diagnosis, coping style, and family needs
- Facilitate therapeutic play, education, and self‑expression to reduce stress and support adjustment to illness, disability, or prolonged healthcare stays
- Communicate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, family‑centered care
- Support siblings and family members through education, emotional support, and resource identification
- Participate in training, mentoring, and orientation of students and volunteers
- Maintain program supplies, documentation, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Additional Information
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, flexible shifts (8-4, 9-5, or 10-6); occasional special events with children
- Compensation: $26-$27 per hour
