Beacon Hill Legal’s client, a national law firm located in Midtown Manhattan, is seeking a Temporary-to-Permanent Patent Prosecution Legal Assistant to join its Patent and Trademark prosecution practice. This role will support all types of domestic and foreign patent matters. Candidates must be able to start immediately and be comfortable commuting to the office in Midtown daily. Pay rate is dependent on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file USPTO documents and communications, including patent applications, responses, assignments, declarations, and related prosecution documents.
- Monitor and maintain patent prosecution dockets, including CPI docketing coverage.
- Review and report USPTO communications and update application status accordingly.
- Coordinate and assist with foreign patent prosecution requirements.
- Order and obtain patent-related documents from the USPTO and foreign patent offices.
- Track chain of title and assist with patent portfolio maintenance and transfers.
- Prepare patent status reports, cost estimates, and assist with budgeting.
- Maintain electronic patent prosecution files and case records.
- Assist with patent annuities, maintenance fees, invoices, and expense reports.
- Support attorneys and the patent prosecution team with administrative projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Ability to commute to the office in Midtown Manhattan five days per week.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution procedures.
- Experience with USPTO electronic filing systems.
- Experience with IP docketing software, preferably CPI.
- Proficiency with patent research databases, including USPTO and WIPO.
- Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office, iManage, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Availability for overtime as needed.
- Ability to manage complex patent portfolios with numerous deadlines.
- 3+ years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate setting.
