This company has a strong presence across multiple regions, a reputation for high‑quality work, and a collaborative, people‑focused culture. With decades of steady growth, they offer a stable environment and the chance to contribute to large‑scale, meaningful projects.

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a hands‑on Accounting Manager with deep construction accounting experience. This individual will oversee daily accounting operations, month‑end close, job cost reporting, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate is both detail‑oriented and operationally minded, capable of managing tactical responsibilities while providing leadership and financial insight.

This position is onsite and interacts closely with project teams, operations, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and job cost functions.
  • Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes with accurate and timely reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile job cost reports, project budgets, and WIP schedules.
  • Produce financial statements, project performance analyses, and management‑level reporting.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and budget adherence.
  • Manage and maintain the chart of accounts, cost codes, and construction-specific accounting structures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry regulations.
  • Support external audits, tax preparation, and financial reviews.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, promoting best practices and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Construction industry accounting experience required (GC, subcontractor, specialty contractor, manufacturing/fabrication supporting construction).
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, project financials, and GL structure.
  • Proficiency in widely used construction accounting ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Vista, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data reconciliation).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA a plus.
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Strong communication and cross-department collaboration skills.
  • Analytical thinker with strong organization and problem-solving abilities.

Ideal Candidate Traits

  • Thrives in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Combines attention to detail with big‑picture understanding.
  • Proactive, solution‑oriented, and committed to process improvement.
  • Confident partnering with both finance and field/project teams.
