A well-established and highly respected commercial real estate organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join its growing finance team. This role will be responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets while partnering closely with operations, property management, and executive leadership.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to expand their exposure to complex real estate transactions, financial reporting, budgeting, lease accounting, and portfolio analysis within a stable and growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage quarterly close processes and prepare supporting schedules for financial reporting and audits.
- Prepare and analyze GAAP financial statements and related reporting packages.
- Review revenue, expenses, and operating results, providing variance analysis and business insights.
- Oversee lease-related accounting, tenant billings, reconciliations, and expense recoveries.
- Analyze real estate tax and operating expense escalations and annual true-ups.
- Prepare lender and third-party reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with property management teams on annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning activities.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and support external and client audits.
- Review lease agreements, joint venture documents, and financing agreements to ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Support depreciation accounting and complex real estate transactions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate, property accounting, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; real estate accounting platforms are a plus.
