Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the firm’s general accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end close process, account reconciliations, trust accounting compliance, and financial analysis. This role works closely with firm leadership, attorneys, and administrative staff to ensure accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and efficient accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial performance and provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities.
- Monitor attorney billing, collections, and realization rates.
- Reconcile operating, payroll, and trust bank accounts.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and profitability analyses.
- Support external audits, tax filings, and year-end reporting requirements.
- Review internal controls and recommend process improvements.
- Collaborate with firm management regarding financial planning and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with payroll review and benefit-related accounting transactions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and firm accounting policies.
- Support accounting system upgrades, reporting enhancements, and special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Progressive accounting experience, preferably within a law firm, professional services organization, or public accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with legal billing systems and trust accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
- Experience with accounting and ERP systems such as Elite 3E, Aderant, Juris, NetSuite, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
