Accounting Manager

Compensation: $135,000-$160,000 + Bonus

Location: South Orange County
Company: Private Equity-Backed Food Manufacturing Company
Reports To: CFO

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Manager to join our growing finance and accounting team. This role will oversee the monthly close process, financial reporting, general ledger management, GAAP compliance, and inventory accounting. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, experience in a manufacturing environment with inventory oversight, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced private equity-backed organization focused on operational excellence and growth.

The Accounting Manager will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information, strengthening internal controls, supporting business decision-making, and driving process improvements across the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to senior leadership.
  • Assist with board, lender, and private equity investor reporting requirements.
  • Ensure financial reporting deadlines are consistently met.
  • Oversee all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end accruals.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and ensure proper account classifications.
  • Improve accounting processes, controls, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Support annual audits and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Monitor adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and document technical accounting matters as needed.

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

  • Manage inventory accounting processes, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and reserves.
  • Oversee inventory reconciliations and cycle count procedures.
  • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Analyze inventory trends, variances, scrap, and production costs.
  • Support physical inventory counts and inventory-related audits.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of manufacturing costs and inventory transactions.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Review work completed by team members and provide coaching and development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in building scalable accounting processes to support company growth.

Operational & Strategic Support

  • Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
  • Support ERP implementations, upgrades, and system optimization initiatives.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Participate in special projects, acquisitions, and business integration activities as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing general ledger and month-end close activities.
  • Manufacturing industry experience with inventory accounting responsibilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or similar platforms.
