We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our growing finance team. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing manufacturing and inventory costs, maintaining standard costing, supporting month-end close activities, and providing financial insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability. This role works closely with accounting, operations, purchasing, and production teams to ensure accurate cost reporting and inventory valuation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain standard costs for products and inventory.
- Analyze manufacturing costs, material usage, labor costs, and overhead allocations.
- Monitor inventory transactions and reconcile inventory balances.
- Perform cost variance analysis and communicate findings to management.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including inventory and cost accounting entries.
- Maintain and update bills of materials (BOMs) and routing information.
- Conduct physical inventory counts and cycle count audits.
- Analyze inventory reserves, obsolete inventory, and inventory adjustments.
- Develop financial reports related to production costs, margins, and profitability.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning processes.
- Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Assist with external audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Compensation & Benefits
- Contract-to-hire with competitive salary between $45-50/hr dependent on experience.
