Director of NERC Compliance (Technology Focus)

Overview
We are seeking a Director of NERC Compliance to lead and oversee compliance programs related to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, with a strong emphasis on technology, cybersecurity, and operational resilience. This individual will drive the organization’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance while integrating security and resilience best practices across technology systems and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization’s NERC compliance strategy, with a focus on NERC CIP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of cybersecurity and operational resilience programs supporting critical infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance requirements are embedded within technology platforms, governance processes, and operational procedures.
  • Partner with technology, security, and business leaders to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership on regulatory, cybersecurity, and resilience initiatives.
  • Support audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews while maintaining a strong culture of compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with Energy Management System (EMS) programming and related technologies.
  • 10+ years of experience implementing cybersecurity, compliance, and operational resilience programs within regulated industries.
  • Deep knowledge of NERC standards, particularly NERC CIP requirements.
  • Strong background in critical infrastructure protection, risk management, and technology governance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience presenting to and advising C-suite executives and senior leadership teams.
  • Background within electric utilities, power generation, transmission, or other critical infrastructure environments.

This is a leadership role for a compliance professional who can effectively bridge technology, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements while helping drive operational excellence across the organization.
