Job Title: Manager of Compensation
Job Type: Contract with potential for conversion
Compensation: $150,000 – $170,000 base (plus 10% bonus upon hire)
Location: Minnetonka, MN (onsite 3+ days/week)
Position Overview
An established organization is seeking a Manager of Compensation to lead and elevate its compensation strategy. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for guiding a small team while actively shaping and executing compensation programs across the business.
This individual will play a key role in ensuring compensation practices remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with company objectives. Strong experience in sales compensation is essential, while exposure to executive compensation is highly valued.
What You’ll Do
Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team
- Manage and mentor a team of three senior-level compensation professionals
- Provide direction, feedback, and coaching to support team success and growth
- Promote a collaborative, results-driven team environment
Drive Compensation Strategy & Execution
- Oversee the development and administration of base pay, incentive plans, and sales compensation programs
- Ensure compensation programs support business goals and market competitiveness
- Act as a trusted advisor on compensation-related matters across the organization
Strengthen Compensation Frameworks
- Maintain and evolve salary structures, job frameworks, and governance practices
- Ensure data integrity and efficiency across compensation systems and processes
- Partner with HRIS and payroll to enhance reporting and technology capabilities
Partner with Business Leaders
- Collaborate with HR and leadership teams to provide insights and recommendations on pay decisions
- Conduct market research and benchmarking to inform compensation strategy
- Clearly communicate compensation philosophy and program updates
Support Ongoing Improvements
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives tied to total rewards and operational improvements
- Stay current on industry trends and recommend enhancements to compensation programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years of compensation experience with increasing responsibility
- Demonstrated expertise in sales compensation
- Prior experience managing or leading compensation professionals
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Team Structure
- Direct oversight of 3 senior compensation team members
