Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Sr. Tax Manager to lead tax provision, compliance, reporting, and indirect tax activities for a public company environment. This role will oversee federal, state, and international tax matters, support SOX 404 compliance, manage audits, and partner with Accounting, Finance, and external advisors. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning the full tax function in a lean environment and can balance both strategic and day-to-day responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage quarterly and annual income tax provisions (ASC 740), including deferred taxes, tax rate reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures.
- Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance activities, including multi-state filings, nexus analysis, and tax audits.
- Support Sales & Use Tax processes and ensure compliance across jurisdictions.
- Maintain and improve SOX 404 controls, documentation, and testing procedures.
- Partner with external auditors and tax advisors on audits, reviews, and technical tax matters.
- Support international tax reporting, including GILTI, FDII, foreign tax credits, and transfer pricing.
- Research and document complex tax issues and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Lead process improvements, automation initiatives, and tax technology enhancements.
- Utilize tools such as Vertex, tax research platforms, ERP systems, and advanced Excel for reporting and analysis.
- Mentor junior staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams on business initiatives, acquisitions, and special projects.
Preferred Background
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in a publicly traded company environment.
- Strong background in corporate income tax, tax provision, Sales & Use Tax, and state tax compliance.
- Experience with SEC reporting, tax footnotes, and SOX controls.
- ERP experience, with Workday strongly preferred.
- CPA designation is a plus.
- Big 4 public accounting experience is highly preferred.
