Staff Accountant – Washington, DC
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support general accounting operations with a primary focus on revenue recognition. This role will be responsible for ensuring revenue is recorded accurately and in accordance with applicable accounting standards, while supporting month-end close and ongoing financial reporting activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform revenue recognition activities in accordance with GAAP, including review of contracts, billing schedules, and performance obligations
- Prepare and record journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, and related accruals
- Reconcile revenue-related general ledger accounts and investigate variances
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
- Collaborate with billing, sales, or contracts teams to resolve revenue discrepancies and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for audits and internal reviews
- Assist with ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2-4+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on revenue recognition exposure
- Working knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles (ASC 606 preferred)
- Experience with general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
