Senior Accounting Specialist

A well-established organization in the Washington, DC area is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with strong general ledger, reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable experience who can work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities
  • Review and process accounts payable invoices
  • Maintain accounts receivable records and apply cash payments
  • Reconcile vendor statements and customer account balances
  • Research and resolve payment and account discrepancies
  • Assist with cash management and treasury-related activities
  • Review financial documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting account analyses
  • Process accounting adjustments, write-offs, and other transactions
  • Respond to internal accounting and financial inquiries
  • Provide documentation and support during audits
  • Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting
  • Hands-on accounts payable and accounts receivable experience
  • Experience supporting month-end close processes
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices
  • Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information confidentially

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a mid-level or senior accounting capacity
  • Experience using a major ERP or financial management system
  • Exposure to treasury, cash management, or investment-related accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience handling high-volume financial transactions and reconciliations
