Accounts Receivable Accountant – Washington, DC

Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Washington, DC in their search for an Accounts Receivable Accountant to join their team. This fully onsite role is responsible for managing accounts receivable activities, billing, cash applications, and collections while supporting overall accounting operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to effectively manage customer accounts and receivable processes in a fast-paced environment. Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, billing, cash applications, and collections.
  • Monitor customer accounts, reconcile balances, and investigate and resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Prepare and maintain aging reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Post customer payments and ensure accurate recording of receivable transactions.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and journal entries related to receivables.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and customers to resolve billing issues and maintain positive relationships.
  • Support financial reporting by preparing receivable-related schedules and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Assist with audit requests and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Construction industry experience, including progress billing, job costing, or contract billing exposure, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable processes and general accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
