Staff Accountant

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join a collaborative accounting team. This role is responsible for supporting the month-end close process, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in corporate accounting, advanced Excel skills, and experience working in a fast-paced business environment. Candidates with experience in retail, property management, hospitality, or other service-based industries are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies and unusual variances.
  • Analyze financial data and provide explanations for fluctuations in account balances.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting records in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other general ledger activities.
  • Work closely with internal departments to obtain information and resolve accounting questions.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Experience with Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze financial data and explain account variances
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Background

  • Corporate accounting experience within retail, hospitality, property management, consumer services, or other service-based industries
  • Candidates from nonprofit or government accounting backgrounds will not be considered for this opportunity
