Part-Time Contract HR Generalist

Our client, a small technology company, is seeking a Part-Time Interim People Operations Generalist to join its team on a 3-month contract during a period of transition, supporting approximately 20 hours per week. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a highly visible, standalone HR role, serving as the primary point of contact for all People-related matters while partnering closely with senior leadership across Legal, Finance, and Operations. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day HR operations, support the employee lifecycle, and manage sensitive employee matters, while coordinating closely with a PEO (Justworks) that handles transactional HR functions. The ideal candidate will bring strong HR operations experience, comfort operating independently, and the ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of HR generalist experience, with strong exposure to HR operations and employee lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated experience operating as a standalone or sole HR resource, ideally within a startup or small-company environment.
- Hands-on experience managing PEO relationships required; Justworks experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll and benefits administration, required.
- Proven experience leading or supporting workers’ compensation and 401(k) audits, required.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance, with the ability to manage reporting and required trainings (e.g., harassment prevention, ACA).
- Experience handling employee relations matters, performance issues, and separations with discretion and sound judgment.
- Comfortable managing onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, and employee inquiries in partnership with external vendors.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
The pay for this role is $42 – $50/hour.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
