Job Title: Systems Architect III
Location
Wisconsin (Primary residence required)
Primarily remote (approximately 90% remote / 10% onsite). Candidates must be available to report onsite in Wisconsin as needed and must reside in Wisconsin or be willing to relocate within 30 days of the start date at their own expense.

Work Schedule
Work must be performed during Central Time business hours, generally between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., or as defined by the hiring manager.
On‑call support and occasional weekend work may be required for maintenance or operational support.
Role Overview
The Systems Architect III will serve as a technical lead for backend infrastructure services in a large, diverse enterprise environment that includes both cloud‑based and on‑premises systems. This individual will work closely with IT leadership, project teams, and operational staff to ensure infrastructure components are designed, implemented, maintained, and operating reliably to support business and project needs.
This role requires a balance of hands‑on technical expertise and technical leadership, including guiding small teams, supporting modernization initiatives, and providing third‑level support for complex systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical lead for backend infrastructure services, ensuring systems are stable, secure, and aligned with organizational standards and best practices.
- Analyze existing and emerging technologies and provide documented recommendations to improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead or support system implementation, modernization, and upgrade initiatives, applying appropriate project methodologies and frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, supervisors, and cross‑functional IT teams to define technical requirements, solution designs, timelines, and risks.
- Provide third‑level technical support for infrastructure systems, including troubleshooting complex issues and guiding resolution efforts.
- Direct and prioritize the work of a small technical team, including operational support, maintenance activities, and on‑call functions.
- Document system architectures, processes, and procedures using appropriate tools and standards.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with management, providing status updates, risks, and recommendations without requiring repeated follow‑up.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including third‑party vendors, to support infrastructure delivery and ongoing operations.
- Support compliance, security, and operational requirements, including systems handling sensitive or regulated data.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience analyzing, designing, and supporting enterprise technologies, with demonstrated ability to document and recommend improvements.
- 7+ years of experience leading technical efforts on system implementation or infrastructure projects.
- 10+ years of expert‑level system administration experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft core services, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DFS, DHCP, DNS, and related services.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Omnissa Horizon and VMware vSphere, including design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
- Demonstrated accountability, initiative, and ownership of outcomes.
Additional Technical Experience (Preferred)
- Administration and support of Azure subscriptions and cloud services
- Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments
- Multi‑factor authentication services
- Certificate services and management
- PowerShell scripting
- Monitoring, storage, and backup solutions
- LDAP configuration and support
- Microsoft 365 services (Teams, email, collaboration tools)
- Infrastructure documentation using tools such as Microsoft Visio
Other Requirements
- Must be physically located in the United States; no international work permitted.
- All work must be performed within the state of Wisconsin.
- Must be able to pass required background checks and security requirements.
- Must provide personal equipment for remote work that meets defined technical specifications.
- Access to sensitive federal information may be required.
- In‑person interviews may be required as part of the selection process.
