UI/UX Designer / Frontend Engineer (Angular)
3 MONTH Contract Engagement (extension possible)
Overview
We are seeking a UI/UX-focused consultant with frontend development experience to support two product engineering teams working on complex, data-driven applications. This role is centered on designing targeted features and workflows within existing systems while also providing mentorship and UX guidance to teams with limited design experience.
The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing hands-on design work, collaboration with cross-functional partners, and light frontend implementation support.
Key Responsibilities
UI/UX Design (Primary Focus)
- Design intuitive user flows and guided workflows for complex, data-heavy applications
- Create UI components and feature designs that support efficient task completion
- Improve usability and clarity within existing applications rather than full platform redesigns
- Clearly communicate design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with product managers, product owners, and engineering leads
- Support two teams simultaneously, adjusting focus as project phases evolve
- Participate in design reviews and iterative feedback cycles
Mentorship & Enablement
- Provide UI/UX guidance and best practices to junior or less design-mature teams
- Help upskill internal team members through coaching, feedback, and example-setting
- Serve as a UX thought partner rather than just a delivery resource
Frontend Development Support (Secondary Focus)
- Assist with frontend implementation as needed
- Support Angular-based component development and integration
- Provide technical guidance to engineers implementing UI designs
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong UI/UX design experience, particularly within complex or data-driven products
- Proven ability to design workflows, feature-level interactions, and functional UI components
- Experience collaborating closely with product and engineering teams
- Ability to clearly articulate design rationale and visual concepts
Technical Experience
- Angular
- TypeScript
- Familiarity with Angular Material or similar component libraries
- Experience working with REST-based APIs
Technical Environment
- Frontend: Angular, TypeScript, Angular Material
- Backend: REST APIs
- Infrastructure: Dockerized applications hosted in AWS
- Tooling: Jira, Bitbucket, automated CI/CD pipelines
- Methodology: Kanban
- Team Size: ~9 members per team
Engagement Details
- Initial focus on pricing, quoting, and rating functionality for a data-heavy application
- Subsequent work supporting the build-out of a client-facing portal
- Workload may fluctuate based on project phase
- Core collaboration hours are expected during standard business hours, with mornings being particularly important
Interview Process
- Single panel interview (60-90 minutes)
- Panel includes engineering leadership and product stakeholders
- Candidates will be asked to provide work samples
