Senior Property Accountant

Position Summary
The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets. This individual ensures accurate and timely financial statements, supports the close process, and partners with property management and asset management teams to deliver high-quality reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow
- Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and provide insights to management and asset teams
- Reconcile bank accounts, monitor cash activity, and oversee tenant receipts and disbursements
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all property-level financial data
- Coordinate with property managers on budgets, forecasts, and operational reporting
- Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable lease agreements and loan documents
- Serve as a key point of contact for assigned properties and cross-functional teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate or property accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems (Yardi, MRI, or similar preferred)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CPA track is a plus
- Experience working with commercial, mixed-use, or multifamily portfolios
- Familiarity with lease terms, property management agreements, and real estate structures
