About the Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to oversee critical finance operations, lead process improvement initiatives, manage staff, and play a key role in budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, and capital project accounting. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on accounting and finance professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day operational oversight with strategic financial initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies.
  • Manage budgeting activities, financial reporting, and general ledger functions.
  • Lead cash management activities, including banking relationships, investments, treasury functions, and credit card administration.
  • Oversee capital project accounting, reporting, and reimbursement processes.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Review and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Partner with technology and reporting teams to enhance financial systems and reporting capabilities.
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, forecasting activities, and financial analysis.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members.
  • Prepare financial reports for internal leadership, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives across the finance function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with audits, cash management, and financial systems.
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Background

  • Experience within higher education, nonprofit, government, or other complex organizational environments.
  • Experience with capital project accounting, grant accounting, or fund accounting.
  • CPA or CPA-track candidates are encouraged to apply.
