Sr. Property Accountant – HUD/Affordable Housing

We’re looking for a Senior Property Accountant to support a portfolio of affordable housing properties. This role focuses on financial reporting, compliance, and close processes across multiple entities. You’ll work closely with property management, asset management, and external partners to keep financials accurate and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage monthly and quarterly financial reporting for a portfolio of residential properties
- Own month-end close including journal entries, accruals, and full balance sheet reconciliations
- Review general ledger activity and investigate variances across multiple entities
- Maintain schedules for loans, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and reserves
- Track and reconcile restricted cash, replacement reserves, and operating accounts
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, and responding to auditor requests
- Review work from third-party or offshore accounting teams and ensure accuracy
- Partner with property management to resolve tenant accounting issues and cash discrepancies
- Assist with property transactions such as refinances, dispositions, and acquisitions
- Ensure compliance with affordable housing regulations and reporting requirements
Qualifications
- 4+ years of property accounting experience, with exposure to affordable housing
- Strong understanding of multi-entity accounting and full-cycle close
- Experience with regulated environments (HUD, LIHTC, or similar)
- Comfortable managing multiple properties and deadlines
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, data analysis)
- Experience with property management/accounting systems such as Yardi (preferred)
