Position Summary:
Analyst II is a mid-level laboratory technician who performs technical testing and analytical procedures with moderate supervision for the Inorganic Chemistry Department. This position requires working knowledge of laboratory protocols, data analysis, and instrument operation. The Analyst II contributes to complex testing projects, ensures compliance with quality standards, and may assist in mentoring junior analysts or technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intermediate-level sample preparation and analysis using standard methods (e.g., USP, FCC, EPA, ASTM, NIOSH methods).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation with minimal supervision. (e.g., balance, auto titrator, LECO TGA, CVAA)
- Analyze and interpret data; report findings with attention to accuracy and compliance.
- Identify deviations from expected results or instrumentation issues and escalate appropriately.
- Assist in troubleshooting routine equipment malfunctions or analytical anomalies.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation per SOPs and QA/QC requirements.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety procedures and contribute to safe lab practices.
- Mentor and provide guidance to entry-level (Analyst I or Technician) staff.
- Participate in audits, quality reviews, and internal improvement initiatives.
- Makes routine technical decisions within standard procedures.
- Refers complex or non-conforming issues to supervisor or senior staff.
- Applies judgment to troubleshoot analytical issues and ensure accurate results.
- May assist in refining procedures or improving efficiency within the lab.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Materials Science, or related technical field.
- 2-4+ years of laboratory experience in a technical or analytical environment.
- Prior experience operating laboratory instruments and interpreting basic data sets.
- Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
- Ability to follow SOPs and regulatory methods (e.g., NIOSH, ASTM, EPA).
- Competent in troubleshooting routine issues and performing basic maintenance.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; experience with LIMS preferred.
