Position Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees real estate development and property management accounting, audits, budgeting, compliance, and financial reporting. This role is responsible for accounting activities related to development projects and managed properties, while also supporting property accounting systems and process improvements. The position reports to the Senior Real Estate Asset Finance Manager and requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Property Management

  • Manage and develop a team of 1-3 accounting professionals
  • Oversee monthly financial reporting for residential, office, and retail properties
  • Review financial statements and reporting packages prior to submission to management, lenders, investors, and regulatory agencies
  • Ensure compliance with loan covenants, annual filings, audits, tax reporting, and other regulatory requirements
  • Oversee debt payments, real estate taxes, owner distributions, payroll reimbursements, management fees, and intercompany transactions
  • Monitor property cash flow and identify solutions to address potential funding shortfalls
  • Lead annual audits, tax filings, and budgeting processes across the property portfolio
  • Manage CAM reconciliations, tenant receivables, billing activities, and delinquency monitoring
  • Prepare forecasts, projections, and financial analyses as needed
  • Serve as the primary resource for property accounting systems, including training and implementation support

Real Estate Development

  • Oversee all development accounting activities and ensure accurate project reporting
  • Partner with development teams to reconcile project activity, construction costs, and accounting records
  • Review and process predevelopment and construction-related expenditures
  • Lead cost certification efforts and support reporting requests from lenders, investors, funders, and regulatory agencies
  • Support acquisitions, refinancing activities, title transfers, and other escrow-related transactions
  • Collaborate with development and property management teams to transition newly acquired or developed properties into the portfolio

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience leading accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • 5+ years of accounting, finance, or related experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Experience within real estate, affordable housing, nonprofit, HUD, tax credit, or bond-financed environments preferred
  • Yardi experience is highly preferred
