Overview

We are supporting electric utility distribution programs and seeking multiple Associate Distribution Engineers to assist with the design and development of overhead and underground distribution systems. This role supports reliability, inspection, joint‑use, and infrastructure upgrade initiatives and offers hands‑on exposure to both fieldwork and office‑based engineering design.

This opportunity is well‑suited for early‑career engineers or professionals looking to grow within utility distribution engineering.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV-138kV)
  • Perform field visits and site inspections, then complete engineering design work in the office
  • Use GIS and CAD tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) to create and update distribution designs
  • Perform engineering calculations such as:
    • Pole loading and structural analysis
    • Guying calculations
    • Conductor sag and tension
    • Voltage drop and flicker
  • Support permitting activities and coordination with local authorities
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews
  • Assist with root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation solutions

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program with less than 2 years of experience, OR
    BS non‑engineering degree with less than 5 years of relevant experience
  • Interest in electric distribution design and utility infrastructure
  • Familiarity with GIS, ESRI, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation preferred
  • Basic understanding of NESC standards is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work
  • Ability to work outdoors and travel overnight up to 10-20% as needed
