Workday Business Analyst

Summary

This is an opportunity to play a highly visible, business-facing role in a major enterprise Workday transformation. You’ll help business leaders turn complex workforce and financial needs into practical processes and scalable Workday solutions, while serving as a bridge between stakeholders and implementation teams. The role blends business analysis, functional Workday expertise, process redesign, and facilitation rather than focusing primarily on technical development. You’ll have meaningful influence over how decisions are made and how the platform operates long after implementation.

About the Opportunity

Join a large organization undertaking a multi-phase modernization of its workforce and financial operations. The transformation spans Human Capital Management, payroll, benefits, recruiting, financial management, projects, procurement, reporting, analytics, security, integrations, and related enterprise capabilities.
You’ll work alongside business leaders, functional specialists, and experienced Workday implementation partners. Rather than simply documenting existing processes, you’ll help teams rethink how work should happen, identify where standard Workday capabilities can simplify operations, and guide stakeholders toward decisions that balance usability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
This is a hands-on advisory role with significant stakeholder exposure and ownership across the transformation lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

Business Process & Solution Design
Help teams translate business objectives into effective Workday-enabled processes.
  • Lead discovery and design conversations across workforce and financial functions.
  • Map how work happens today and shape simpler, more scalable future-state processes.
  • Help stakeholders distinguish essential business needs from legacy practices that can be modernized.
  • Evaluate Workday functionality and configuration approaches, explaining benefits, tradeoffs, and downstream impacts.
  • Connect decisions across areas such as HCM, payroll, time, projects, billing, expenses, procurement, and accounting.
Stakeholder & Partner Leadership
Create alignment among business teams, functional specialists, and implementation partners.
  • Facilitate workshops that move groups from open questions to clear decisions and actionable outcomes.
  • Translate between business stakeholders and Workday specialists without requiring either audience to speak the other’s language.
  • Provide an informed perspective on proposed solutions and surface viable alternatives when they better support the business.
  • Navigate competing priorities and identify decisions that need program-level attention.
  • Keep stakeholders aligned as requirements and implementation decisions evolve.
Requirements, Processes & Governance
Build the practical foundation that helps the transformation remain understandable and manageable.
  • Develop business requirements, process models, user stories, decision records, and functional guidance.
  • Maintain traceability between business needs, solution decisions, and implementation outcomes.
  • Capture the reasoning behind important design choices so future teams understand both what was decided and why.
  • Incorporate reporting, data, security, analytics, and role considerations into process discussions rather than treating them as afterthoughts.
  • Use visual process-mapping and collaboration tools to make complex workflows easier for stakeholders to understand.
Validation, Readiness & Knowledge Transfer
Help ensure designs work effectively outside the workshop room.
  • Participate in solution demonstrations, prototype reviews, and configuration validation.
  • Support test scenarios, user acceptance activities, and analysis of functional issues.
  • Help business teams understand how roles, responsibilities, and operating procedures will change.
  • Transfer functional knowledge to process owners and system support teams through clear documentation and walkthroughs.
  • Where appropriate, contribute to limited Workday prototyping or configuration validation alongside designated functional teams.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means stakeholders can make informed decisions without slowing the transformation down. Workshops result in clear outcomes, processes become simpler rather than merely digitized, and Workday designs reflect both business priorities and sustainable platform practices.
You’ll make the greatest impact by:
  • Building credibility with both business and implementation teams.
  • Identifying cross-functional consequences before they become implementation problems.
  • Keeping requirements and decisions clear, organized, and traceable.
  • Encouraging thoughtful adoption of Workday’s delivered capabilities.
  • Leaving internal teams with the documentation and knowledge needed to own the platform after deployment.

What You Bring

Strong candidates will typically bring a combination of enterprise transformation experience, business analysis skills, and practical Workday knowledge. You do not need to be equally deep across every Workday module.
A relevant background may include:
  • Several years of experience in business analysis, functional consulting, process improvement, or enterprise application transformation.
  • Meaningful participation in at least one Workday implementation lifecycle, with exposure to activities such as discovery, design, testing, deployment, or transition to operations.
  • Functional knowledge across multiple Workday areas with deeper expertise in at least one domain.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and guiding stakeholders through decisions involving competing business needs.
  • Strong process-analysis skills, including current-state and future-state modeling.
  • Enough knowledge of Workday configuration, business processes, security, reporting, and organizational structures to evaluate solution options and communicate tradeoffs.
  • The ability to turn business objectives into practical functional guidance for implementation teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with the judgment to challenge assumptions constructively when needed.
Candidates who have developed their Workday expertise through implementation experience, functional ownership, consulting, or formal training are all encouraged to apply.

Nice to Have

Additional experience that could help you make an early impact includes:
  • Deeper expertise in Workday HCM, Payroll, Financial Management, or Projects.
  • Experience across multiple Workday implementations or a broad enterprise transformation.
  • Hands-on Workday configuration, prototyping, or configuration-validation exposure.
  • Familiarity with Workday Launch Express.
  • Experience with Lucidchart, Lucidspark, or similar process-modeling platforms.
  • Exposure to complex project-based, asset-intensive, engineering, construction, energy, or professional-services environments.
  • Experience supporting organizational change, testing, training, or deployment readiness.
  • Workday training or certifications.
  • Business analysis, project, process-improvement, Agile, Lean, or Six Sigma credentials such as CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or comparable certifications.
