Legal Billing Specialist – Washington, DC

Job Summary

Beacon Hill has partnered with a client in the Washington, DC area seeking a Legal Billing Specialist to join its Accounting team. This position will own the full-cycle billing process for a portfolio of attorneys and clients. The ideal candidate will have legal billing experience and the professionalism and communication skills necessary to build trusted client relationships in a fast-paced environment. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior billing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full billing cycle for assigned attorneys and clients from pre-bill generation through invoice submission
  • Maintain client billing guidelines, rates, billing codes, and fee arrangements
  • Review, edit, and finalize pre-bills based on attorney direction and client requirements
  • Submit invoices through e-billing platforms and resolve billing rejections or disputes
  • Monitor discounts, accruals, and client-specific billing requirements
  • Partner directly with attorneys, clients, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate billing
  • Assist with collections inquiries and outstanding invoice resolution
  • Prepare client reports and maintain internal billing documentation
  • Train and support attorneys, assistants, and junior billing staff on billing processes and systems

Requirements

  • Legal billing experience, including full-cycle billing responsibilities
  • Experience with Aderant software
  • Experience with legal e-billing platforms, invoice submissions, and client billing guidelines
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Experience managing high-volume, complex client accounts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional client-facing demeanor
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
