Staff Data Engineer

Location: Austin, TX preferred (Remote considered)

Seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable data platforms that power analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building reliable data pipelines, designing robust data models, and mentoring other engineers while partnering closely with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Strong experience building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Expertise with dbt, data modeling, and modern data warehouse best practices
  • Experience designing and optimizing large-scale data architectures
  • Proven ability to work with complex datasets and deliver high-quality, reliable data solutions
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product, Analytics, and Engineering
  • Strong system design and data architecture experience
  • Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership as an individual contributor
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting analytics and machine learning platforms
  • Background working in cloud-based data environments
  • Experience with modern BI and data visualization tools

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, and dbt.
  • Develop and maintain robust data models that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning.
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Improve data quality, governance, reliability, and performance across the data platform.
  • Lead architectural decisions and establish data engineering best practices.
  • Mentor team members through technical guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive continuous improvements in data infrastructure, automation, and engineering processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues and optimize data workflows for performance and scalability.
