Assistant General Manager

  • Location: New York, NY (on-site full time)
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5pm with 1 hour paid lunch
  • Pay Rate: $30 – $32 an hour DOE
  • Position Type: Contract to hire (approx. 90 days)
  • Start Date: August 17th

Position Overview

The Assistant General Manager provides key operational and administrative support for a commercial office property or portfolio. In this role, you will help ensure the day-to-day success of property operations, serving as a point of leadership when the Property Manager or General Manager is unavailable. You will partner closely with tenants, service providers, and engineering teams while gaining exposure to financial reporting, property operations, and tenant relations. Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary resource for tenant inquiries and service requests, ensuring concerns are addressed efficiently and professionally.
  • Support property financial operations through invoice administration, budget monitoring, and preparation of recurring financial reports.
  • Coordinate maintenance projects and work orders with building engineers and third-party vendors to maintain a high-quality tenant experience.
  • Perform routine building inspections and site walks to identify operational needs, maintenance concerns, and safety compliance issues.
  • Assist with lease administration activities, including managing documentation, coordinating tenant move-ins, and maintaining organized records.
  • Help plan and execute tenant engagement initiatives, building events, and communications that foster a positive workplace community.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support compliance with management agreements, local regulations, and overall building operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to obtain a Real Estate License within six months of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial property management experience, with a strong background in tenant relations and customer service.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing property-related accounting and financial functions.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, invoicing, expense management, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience resolving issues in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Real Estate Salesperson License.
  • Experience using property management software, including Yardi Voyager, MRI, or comparable platforms.

Ideal Candidate Background

Successful candidates will have at least three years of commercial property management experience and a strong financial acumen related to property operations. This role requires hands-on experience with operating expense reconciliations (OPEX), real estate tax calculations and true-ups (RETAX), quarterly sales tax filings, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, and annual budget preparation. Experience utilizing Yardi Voyager is highly preferred. The ideal candidate understands the financial side of property management and can confidently manage accounting and reporting responsibilities in a commercial real estate environment.
