Real Estate Paralegal

A well-established Chicago law firm is seeking a Real Estate Paralegal to join its team. This position will support attorneys in all phases of commercial and residential real estate transactions, including due diligence, document preparation, title and survey review, financing support, and closing coordination.

This role offers a 37.5-hour work week with flexibility around start and end times. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with the team working onsite 2 days one week and 3 days the next. Paralegals are eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus, and the firm provides a laptop. The salary for this position is $100K – $120K DOE.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of commercial real estate paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. Candidates should be comfortable managing complex transactions, reviewing title and survey materials, coordinating with outside parties, and assisting with closings from start to finish.

Skills required and Job Duties include the following:

Job Duties:

  • Draft, review, and manage documentation for real estate transactions, including purchase and sale agreements, deeds, leases, estoppels, SNDA agreements, and closing binders
  • Coordinate and manage due diligence materials for commercial and residential real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and borrowings
  • Review and summarize title commitments, exception documents, UCC searches, and surveys
  • Prepare title and survey objection letters
  • Communicate and coordinate with title companies, lenders, surveyors, clients, and opposing counsel to facilitate smooth closings
  • Prepare closing checklists, track contingencies, and manage pre-closing and post-closing tasks
  • Assist with real estate financing transactions, including preparation and review of loan documentation, escrow instructions, and disbursement statements
  • Form and maintain entities for real estate transactions, including LLCs and limited partnerships
  • Obtain EINs, good standing certificates, and other necessary corporate or transaction-related documents
  • Assist with additional real estate and transactional support as needed

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of commercial real estate paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program preferred
  • Strong understanding of title and survey review, closing procedures, and commercial loan documentation
  • Experience managing multiple complex transactions with competing deadlines
  • Experience handling multi-property portfolios or development projects preferred
  • Familiarity with real estate recording and zoning procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Notary Public certification preferred
