BH Legal™ Case Study

Placing an Intellectual Property Secretary with High Emotional Intelligence for Direct Hire

Challenge

Our Chicago-based client needed an intellectual property (IP) legal secretary with high emotional intelligence (EQ) who could work well with a wide range of work styles and continually learn and take responsibility for specialized office processes. The client previously experienced high turnover in this position, and sourcing secretaries experienced in IP was difficult.

Solution

We consulted with our client and recommended they keep an open mind with outside-the-box candidates. Beacon Hill Legal sourced a project assistant with a strong education, an interest in IP, and who was experienced in many areas. After meeting our candidate, the client realized the opportunity to upskill the individual who demonstrated a high EQ. This gave them confidence that this person could build strong relationships, reduce team stress, defuse conflict, and improve job satisfaction.

Achievements

Our client was pleased with the candidate we placed, who has been quite successful, is learning new responsibilities, and is thriving in the role. The client was so pleased that they asked us to use the same approach to fill an open role in another department.
