HCaaS Supplements Offshore Engagement with Onshore Team to Modernize Retail Merchandising Services
Challenge
This sizeable retail corporation was modernizing their core retail merchandising services (RMS) application to the cloud by integrating Apache Kafka. They initially partnered with an offshore integration vendor to assemble a team of developers for repeatable tasks. In contrast, their internal team managed the architecture and complex integration efforts, so the code in production ran successfully on the new platform. They aimed to complete the work over a two-year sprint and come in below budget by leveraging offshore support.
At first, the project was going well. Still, over six months, the quality started to suffer from constant turnover, and their internal employees became burnt out with off-hour emergencies due to time zone differences. They began looking for new ways to improve their current offshore engagement with a trusted onshore partner to help manage the vendor relationship and bring in subject matter expertise with Kafka solutions.
Solution & Achievements
Beacon Hill Technologies was selected to leverage our Human Capital as a Service (HCaaS) delivery model. We kicked off the engagement by meeting with our client’s key stakeholders, technical leads, and their offshore partner to understand the current state, challenges with off hours, strains put on internal staff, and gaps in technical requirements. We assembled a team of Kafka subject matter experts (SMEs) with extensive experience driving modern integration transformation projects across enterprise environments, as well as Kafka engineer leads and developers to help with complex integration work and offshore vendor management.
As part of our overall service and to empower our client to focus on other tasks, we assigned a project delivery manager to handle the extensive onboarding requirements, provide centralized reporting with real-time updates, and continue talent management. This project is still underway
